Welcome to Poncho’s 2012 Top 10 Countdown

Happy New Year’s Eve 2012!  Today, we will be counting down the Top 10 moments in 2012 for the life of Poncho.  Join us as we re-live the highs and lows in the Life of Poncho, aka El Poncho or The Dude.  And now, we introduce….

Number 7:  Picnicking with NGU

“Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.”

Every year, Nevada Greyhounds Unlimited (NGU) hosts a summer picnic for all the local adoptive families in Northern Nevada.  Poncho has been to two of these picnics, and always enjoys spending time with his old friends Abbi, Sage, Joey and the lovely and now departed over the Rainbow Bridge, Rudy.  The picnic is held at a lovely home, with spacious grounds for the hounds to zoom around, and a pond to cool one’s jets.

This year, Poncho jumped in the pond right away, said hello to Deb from Southern California, who was one of the initial volunteers who transported him to us,  competed in bobbing for hot dogs, and posed for some family photos.

Last year, on our first picnic, we arrived at the home with a freshly bathed, pristine greyhound.  BIG MISTAKE.  It is a day for the dogs to run around, roll around, and go nuts.

Here are a couple of shots of Poncho, dipping in the lily pond, and reclining with his buddies after a long day in the sun:

It was so hot that day, and in the midst of the hottest part of the afternoon,  instead of partaking in the shade, El Poncho decided to make for the dirt pile.

We learned our lesson this year, and decided to bathe him AFTER the picnic.  This was a good idea, after all, because after 30 minutes in this, he was covered all over with dirt and dust.  What can I say… El Poncho loves to sunbathe.
